First crop of potatoes

Not much has happened on our walks with Horace over
the last few weeks that’s why I haven’t posted
anything.
Today we pulled up our potatoes and got 2.5 kilo I’m quite pleased with that for our first crop, For next year we are planning on making some potato boxes to grow them in that we can keep topping up with compost as they grow.

A few weeks ago I
planted a pea just to see if it would grow, It did
start to grow and is now a small plant, I made a
mesh tube out of some screen printing mesh and put
that around the pea plant and made a top for it,
It’s all very rough as you can see in the picture
below left, This has stopped any chance of slugs
getting inside and eating the plant, also it lets
in air and water.
For next year we plan to make mesh covers for all
our vegetables.
